Brunel's Great Eastern is shown being built on the Thames at Millwall. The scene was reconstructed from a range of sources including contemporary news illustrations. Originally named Leviathan, the ship became Great Eastern after the costs involved in launch sent the original owners bankrupt.

This painting is signed in the lower right corner.
