Queen Mary's Maiden Voyage captures the spectacle of one of the greatest ocean liner departures: the moment when Cunard's flagship left Southampton for her maiden crossing to New York on 27 May 1936.
The maiden voyage was part of the glamour of ocean travel at its peak. As the Queen Mary moved down the Solent toward the open sea, she was surrounded by small vessels - yachts, fishing boats, pleasure craft, and tugs - all come to see the liner set out. The shorelines were lined with crowds.
