Town Quay, Southampton

A Red Jet high-speed ferry arrives at Town Quay in early evening, viewed from the marina with moored yachts filling the foreground. The warm light catches the ferry's red hull atop blue waters as she slows for the terminal.
Town Quay sits at the heart of Southampton's waterfront — ferries, yachts, cruise ships and commercial traffic all pass within a few hundred metres of this spot, making it a busy and varied view. The Red Jet catamarans run the high-speed passenger service to Cowes on the Isle of Wight, crossing the Solent in around 30 minutes.
This painting was made on location over three days, returning each evening to catch the same light conditions. The vertical format allows the full height of the masts to read against the sky while giving depth to the view through the marina. Exhibited at the Southampton International Boat Show, 2024.
