Balmoral at Sunrise captures the Fred Olsen Line's MS Balmoral in a quiet moment moored at berth 101 in Southampton as morning light breaks across the water.
The Balmoral is a modern cruise ship operated by Fred Olsen Line and features the line's distinctive livery. Built in 1988 by Meyer Werft in Papenburg, Germany, the ship is much smaller than many modern cruise ships - a feature many passengers prefer.
Southampton is one of the UK's busiest cruise and container ship ports, long associated with ocean travel, and the approaching tanker Whitchampion is a common sight around the port.
The painting was created in 2024 and exhibited at the Southampton International Boat Show. Signed GS in the lower left, and dated 2024 in the lower right.
