HMS Repulse and HMS Prince of Wales depicts two of the Royal Navy's most powerful warships in the Indian Ocean during December 1941, en route to Singapore for what would become their final voyage.

The two ships - a battlecruiser and a battleship - represented Britain's naval might in the Far East. HMS Repulse, built in 1916, was a veteran of the First World War. HMS Prince of Wales, commissioned in 1941, was a modern battleship equipped with the latest technology. Together, they formed Force Z, tasked with defending British interests in the Pacific against Japanese expansion.

This painting captures them at a moment of confidence, steaming through tropical waters under clear skies. Yet On 10 December 1941, both ships were sunk by Japanese aircraft.

The loss of these two vessels was symbolic and strategic - a profound shock to the Royal Navy and the British public. The painting shows them at their finest, most powerful and purposeful. Signed GS on the lower right and dated 2025 lower left.
