Rising Tide
No payment is taken at this stage.
Stone steps descend into the rising tide at the far end of Ocean Village, with seagulls resting on the warm stone and a distant view out towards the Solent beyond the railings. The water is calm and high, lapping at the upper steps — a quiet subject of the waterfront rather than the bustle of the marina behind.
Painted on location, the composition edits out the wall of wire railing that covered this viewpoint at the time, returning the scene to old stone meeting water, with the distant shoreline beyond. The vertical format emphasises the descent of the steps and the upward view to the horizon. Exhibited at the Southampton International Boat Show, 2024. Signed in the lower left and dated in the lower right.
